About Dr. Leslie Koretz

Dr. Koretz grew up on Lake Ontario in Upstate New York, outside of Rochester, NY. During her school-age years, she was very involved in the art of dance and traveled to several summer ballet programs.

In 2007 Dr. Koretz completed her undergraduate degree at The Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. She majored in Biobehavioral Health and graduated with minors in both Biology and Neuroscience. She was an active member of two student organizations: Orchesis Dance Company and the Penn State Cycling Club.

From 2007-2008 Dr. Koretz spent time gaining real-world hospital experience in Pittsburgh, PA. She worked as a patient care technician at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside Hospital in a cardiac step-down unit.

In 2012 Dr. Koretz graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. Osteopathic medical school graduates have a D.O. degree, and can work in the same capacity as an M.D. physician, including all medical and surgical specialties. Dr. Koretz is board-certified by the AOBFP.

In 2015 Dr. Koretz completed her Family Medicine residency training with Mercy Health in Muskegon, MI. After residency, she moved to Asheville, NC and worked in Waynesville, NC and then Lake Lure, NC before deciding to open her own practice.

Dr. Koretz enjoys mountain biking, hiking, running, camping and swimming in the great outdoors. Her passion for these activities are ultimately what brought her to Asheville, NC. She also enjoys comedy, trying new foods, and loves animals. She has several adopted pets from various rescue organizations.

Her favorite thing about being a family doctor is the ability to develop close relationships with her patients, and to help them understand and manage their health throughout the entirety of their lives. She is a very thorough physician and enjoys spending time with each person she cares for.

About Koretz Family Health and Direct Primary Care

Koretz Family Health (KFH) is a family medical practice that provides primary care for people of all ages.

The practice uses the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, contracting directly with patients for a flat periodic fee in exchange for membership in the practice. Members receive comprehensive, patient-centered primary care, and benefit from more time with and access to their primary care physician (PCP). This membership model allows for more time spent on what truly matters – patient health care – without the burden of coding, billing, and mounds of paperwork required in the traditional fee-for-service (FFS) model.

In a traditional FFS practice, hospital systems, employers and physicians are bound by hundreds of pages of Medicare rules. Medicare rules actually govern all types of insurance companies, not just Medicare. Practices must follow certain regulations and bill for their services in specific ways, which are often cumbersome and take time. In order to do this, hospital systems and employers must hire administrators, billers and coders, and other business people to handle these extra layers of red tape. By forgoing the acceptance of insurance payment, direct primary care physicians are not restricted by these rules and the associated bureaucracy. This means your DPC physician is free to spend as much time with you as they want - there is no longer a need to see 20 patients per day in order to cover the overhead of all these "middlemen." In fact, DPC practices work best when their schedules are not full. Having time to meet with patients in a timely manner means high-quality care, happy doctors, and happy, healthier patients.

With Koretz Family Health, patients will enjoy a high-quality care experience and potential cost savings by preventing unnecessary visits to the emergency room or urgent care center. Keeping care with a patient's PCP = better care and less expensive care. Additionally, people without any medical insurance coverage or high-deductible insurance plans will almost certainly enjoy cost savings, as KFH prices are lower than those in traditional fee-for-service offices. Membership costs less than most people spend in a year for their cell phone or cable TV!

Members may still use their insurance for everything else, including prescriptions, specialist visits, hospitalizations, physical therapy, mental health services, and imaging and lab studies, depending on the specific insurance plan. We encourage our members to at least maintain catastrophic insurance coverage, in the event a serious medical issue arises.
